This project involved extensive refurbishment and adaptive reuse of the former Golden Crust Bakery warehouse in Armadale. Although in a state of deterioration, the client was committed to retaining the original building fabric which was highly valued in the streetscape by neighbours. The design reinvigorated the bakery with careful attention to detailing to preserve and enhance its industrial appeal.

The client’s primary attraction of this building was the potential to address their expansive family accommodation requirements. This included four children in their late teens, two younger children and regular visits from grandparents who reside overseas.

An extensive interior scheme was developed to engage with the building’s history. In addition, a new bridge connected the two buildings, the main house and stables outbuilding, creating a social, sculptural and undercover connection between separated spaces.
